Get a Phone Call Reminder Instead of a Notification
If you keep dismissing reminders without reading them, you are not alone. A phone call reminder fixes that by doing the one thing a notification will not: it rings until you pick up, then tells you what you asked to be told.
Is there an app that calls you to remind you?
Yes, though it is less common than you would expect. Most reminder apps stop at notifications and alarms. DoNotify places a real phone call. You set it up in a browser, so there is nothing to install, and the reminder arrives as an ordinary incoming call.
How to set a phone call reminder
- Create a free account and add your phone number.
- Write what the call should say, for example "Call the bank before 5pm."
- Pick the date and time, and whether it repeats.
That is it. At that minute your phone rings and the message is read out loud. If you have Google Calendar connected, you can also choose events and get a call before each one.
When a call works better than an alarm
- You snooze alarms on autopilot. A call asks you to answer, which is enough to make the reminder register.
- The phone is in another room. A ringing call is louder and longer than a notification chime.
- You need to know what the reminder was for. An alarm just beeps. A call says the words you wrote.
If you miss it
When voicemail picks up, the message is left there and DoNotify calls back from a different number shortly after. A second ring from a new number tends to get noticed.
Cost
Your first 14 calls are free with no card. After that, $7.50 a month covers up to 50 calls, which is more than one reminder a day.
