A Meeting Reminder That Rings Your Phone
Calendar notifications pile up all day, and the one for the meeting that matters looks exactly like the other twenty. A meeting reminder that rings your phone stands out because nothing else does.
Why meeting notifications get missed
A pop-up ten minutes before a meeting is easy to dismiss while you finish an email. On a phone it is quieter still: silent mode, a Focus mode, or a phone face down on the desk. You find out when someone messages "are you joining?"
A call is different. It rings until you answer, it says the meeting name out loud, and it reaches you away from your laptop.
Set a meeting reminder from Google Calendar
DoNotify is a Google Workspace add-on, so you set it up inside Google Calendar:
- Install DoNotify from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Open a meeting in Google Calendar and find DoNotify in the side panel.
- Choose when to be called: 2, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes, an hour, or a day before.
At that time your phone rings and the meeting title is read out. If voicemail picks up, DoNotify calls back from a different number.
Which meetings deserve a call
- Client and sales calls, where being late costs more than an apology.
- Interviews, on either side of the table.
- Meetings outside your usual routine, like an early start or a different timezone.
- Anything you have already been late to once.
Keep normal notifications for everything else. The call is for the handful of meetings you cannot miss.
For teams
Workspace admins can roll DoNotify out across the organization. See DoNotify for Google Workspace for team plans.
